Properties

• Very high wear resistance (due to high hardness and chromium content).

• Good dimensional stability during hardening.

• Lower toughness (more brittle compared to other tool steels).

• Good compressive strength.

Heat Treatment

• Annealing (soft): 800 – 850 °C, slow cooling; hardness after annealing max. 230 HB.

• Hardening: 960 – 1000 °C, quenching in oil or air.

• Tempering: 150 – 300 °C depending on required hardness.

• Hardness after hardening: approx. 60 – 64 HRC.

Applications

• Cutting tools for sheet metal, punching and blanking dies.

• Rolls and tools for cold forming.

• Cutting and pressing tools.

• Moulds for plastics with abrasive fillers.
