Properties:
High resistance to thermal stress and cracking (hot cracking resistance).
Good toughness and wear resistance.
Stable microstructure at high temperatures.
Good machinability in annealed condition.
Hardness after hardening and tempering: approx. 48–52 HRC.

Heat treatment:
Soft annealing: 750 – 800 °C, slow cooling; max. hardness ~230 HB.
Hardening: heating to 1000 – 1050 °C, cooling in oil or air.
Tempering: 550 – 670 °C (depending on required hardness); double or triple tempering is recommended.

Applications:
Moulds for die casting of aluminium, zinc, and magnesium.
Tools for hot forging and pressing.
Shear blades and cutting tools exposed to elevated temperatures.
Highly stressed tool parts requiring resistance to thermal fatigue.
