Properties

• very high toughness and impact resistance (due to high nickel content)

• good dimensional stability during heat treatment

• high strength even in large cross-sections

• very good wear resistance after hardening

• good machinability in annealed condition

Heat Treatment

• Annealing (soft annealing): 680 – 720 °C, slow cooling

• Hardening: 830 – 860 °C, quenching in oil or air

• Tempering: 540 – 680 °C depending on required hardness

• Hardness after annealing: max. 229 HB

• Hardness after hardening and tempering: approx. 52 – 54 HRC

Applications

• blanking and cutting tools for cold work

• forming rolls and tools for heavy loads

• dies and moulds for plastic processing

• highly stressed machine parts requiring a combination of strength and toughness
