Chemical composition (typical values, %)

C: 0.14–0.19 | Mn: 1.00–1.30 | Cr: 0.80–1.10 | Si: <=0.40 | P: <=0.025 | S: 0.020–0.040

Compared to 16MnCr5, it has a higher and controlled sulphur content, which improves machinability.

Mechanical properties (normalized condition, not carburised)

• Rm: approx. 550–750 MPa

• Re: min. 300 MPa

• A: min. 14 %

• Hardness HB: 170–220
  (after carburising & quenching: surface 58–62 HRC, core 30–40 HRC)

Properties

• suitable for carburising (hard surface + tough core)

• good machinability (due to sulphur)

• medium weldability (preheating recommended)

• high wear resistance after carburising
