1.2210 h9 – 115CrV3
Ground and polished tool steel for precision parts, cutting tools, and guide elements
Steel 1.2210 (115CrV3) is a low-alloy cold work tool steel, also known as silver steel. It is characterized by good machinability, high hardness after hardening, good wear resistance, and very good edge retention. It is also supplied as a ground and polished round bar with h9 tolerance, making it suitable for precise technical applications.
The designation h9 does not indicate the steel grade itself, but the dimensional tolerance of the diameter, typically used for ground and polished round bars according to DIN 175 / EN 10278. This type of material is suitable wherever dimensional accuracy and high surface quality are required already in the delivered condition.
Properties of 1.2210 h9 steel
🛡️ Good wear resistance
The high carbon content together with chromium and vanadium ensures good service life of functional and cutting surfaces.
🔩 High hardness after hardening
With proper heat treatment, a working hardness of approximately 58–62 HRC can be achieved, and for shorter parts even more.
✨ Ground and polished surface in h9 tolerance
The material is suitable for precision parts, guide elements, gauge pins, and other components requiring dimensional accuracy.
⚙️ Good machinability in the annealed condition
Before hardening, it can be machined well by turning, milling, drilling, and grinding.
🔧 Good edge retention and strength
Suitable for the production of tools and precision mechanical parts that must withstand wear and load.
❗ Not corrosion resistant
Unlike stainless materials, 1.2210 is not stainless steel and may corrode without protection.
